I am not only creating awareness in local communities of schools but also addressing the needs of specialneeds children in Pakistan and in Switzerland with a vision to spread this message worldwide. Some parents from my neighborhood and the Montessori school community are very intrigued to be partof it and they are following on the website to learn about it in their own comfortable language. My children who are ages 13, 15 and 18 are part of it to raise awareness in their peer grouping as well. Join us to make a better and safer place for our children and youth. ! Since the age of 13, I knew that I wanted to use my voice for the voicelesschildren who lose their lives every day to child abuse and neglect. As amindful mom and an educationist myself, I use my services of strongMontessori background and my heart rendering workshops as a MBIBAmbassador to raise awareness, I share how I am addressing the issue ofchild abuse and neglect. Neglect is one of the most common forms of child abuse. I am trying to raiseawareness in my Montessori community of teachers, parents, youth andchildren under my association WORLD ONE COUNTRY to be the change and have power to change. My Body Is My Body How do I do this? Volunteering my time. Getting involved with other parents in my community. ... Disciplining my children thoughtfully withvalue driven motherhood.Examining my own behavior. ... Educating myself and others. ... Teaching children their rights. ... Supporting MBIMB programs. Online and offline ... Know what child abuse is. ... Know the signs. www.mybodyismybody.comPage 25

Child LabourPage 24www.mybodyismybody.comBy Chrissy Sykes Nearly 1 in 10 children are subjected to childlabour worldwide, with some forced intohazardous work through trafficking. *UNICEF

Page 28

Child LabourAccording to the InternationalLabour Organisation The term“child labour” is often defined aswork that deprives children oftheir childhood, their potential andtheir dignity, and that is harmful tophysical and mental development. The United Nations adopted the Conventionon the Rights of the Child in 1990, whichwas subsequently ratified by 193 countries.[123] Article 32 of the convention addressedchild labour, as follows:...Parties recognise the right of the child tobe protected from economic exploitation andfrom performing any work that is likely to behazardous or to interfere with the child'seducation, or to be harmful to the child'shealth or physical, mental, spiritual, moral orsocial development.[4]Under Article 1 of the 1990 Convention, achild is defined as "... every human beingbelow the age of eighteen years unless, under the law applicable to the child, amajority is attained earlier." Article 28 of thisConvention requires States to, "makeprimary education compulsory and availablefree to all."[4]Page 28By Chrissy Sykeswww.mybodyismybody.com

Child Labour What can we do to stop child Labour? As child labour is a global problem, it requires a global solution. In many countries communities are working together tocreate “Child Labour Free Zones”. Here communities are trying to get children out of work andback into school. It is much more beneficial for thesecommunities to have the children in school and learning. We must not accept companies that use children in theirmines, factories, farms, sand businesses. We also needto make sure that in every country children have access tofree education if their parents can not afford to send themto school.Page 24By Chrissy Sykeswww.mybodyismybody.comWhat are the worst forms of child labour? Slavery or similar practicesChild traffickingForced recruitment into armed conflictProstitution and pornographyDrug production and trafficking or other illegal actsDebt bondageHazardous work that can cause injury or moral corruption We all need to advocate for the strengthening of national and localpolicies around the world that promote education and protect childrenAll children deserve an education and a chance to succeed.

Page 30

Child LabourChild Labour affects millions of families around the world every year and with the advent of Covid-19 we expectthe economic hardship to increase around the world. Approximately 152 million children are forced into childlabour, with about half subjected to hazardous forms of work. The greatest cause behind child labour is familypoverty where children can be earning between 25 - 40% pf the household income. According to World Vision, In Asia, as many as 8 million children are working, begging or marrying becausethe Covid-19 Pandemic has taken their parents’ jobs, and they have to resort to using their children to earnmoney to survive or pay off debts. Children that are refugees or migrant children are at great risk of being abused and forced to work or even trafficked. Many children become separated from their parents and this makes them very vulnerable. Girls are often subjected to sexual exploitation (although boys can alsobe subjected to this) . Boys are more commonly exploited by armed forces or groups to become child soldiers.Children can be forced into child labour for various reasons: 1) Illness of parent or caregiver2) Loss of family earnings due to job loss3) Loss of a parent/s4) Conflicts or natural disasters5) Families that are unable to break the cycle of poverty In these circumstances many children are forced toleave school (or they may never have never been toschool due to family poverty).  Child labour can result in the following for a child:1) Extreme Bodily Harm2) Extreme Mental Harm3) Lack Of Schooling4) Sexual Exploitation5) Illness due to lack of healthcare6) In extreme cases it can lead to deathBy Chrissy Sykeswww.mybodyismybody.com

Page 31

Child LabourThe incidence of hazardous work in countries affected by armed conflictis 50% higher than the global average.Nearly 1 in 10 children – some 152 million – are in child labour, almosthalf of whom work in hazardous conditions.30 million children live outside their country of birth, increasing theirrisk of being trafficked for sexual exploitation and other work. Key Facts from UNICEF: Let’s give children the education and chance at life that they deserve. Child Labour robs children of theirchildhood.Page 31By Chrissy Sykeswww.mybodyismybody.com

Growing up in the rural village of Abwanget in the eastern part of Uganda in East Africa wherebysubsistence agriculture is the main activity as income generation. Most of the families have deficientneeds in which affect the welfare of the children as they grow. Most children do not get enoughsupport for attaining affordable quality education. The education levels are low attributed mainly to lack of parents to pay tution for their children, long distance schooling, lack of regular meals at homeand while at school, no money to buy scholastic and reading materials by parents, because of thisspecific reason a number of children have dropped out of school resulting to child labour cases, juvenile cases of defilement , theft and among others. As the reasons above being the key motivating factors, the establishment of the Centre for Childrenand Library facility will bring solutions to some of the problems identified above. The centre will welcome all persons who have the same motivation so as to support the developmentand supporting welfare of children and the youths.Building process of the Centre.Way back 2019, I and my team sat down with a joint idea of having a library and child centreconstructed. Labour ( man power), land, trees, water were available to start with the brick project. Westarted with was establishing the site for brick making of which was done and the process begun .Moulding, baking, drying and burining bricks was successfully done .The hardest part was getting the roofing done, I accessed a loan, again mobilized some youths tomake another 15000 bricks this was done and we sold 10000 bricks and we were able to secureroofing materials including the labour. I again had to make ends meet since we could not leave thebuilding open without shuttering we secured some shutters windows and doors through fundraisingdrives . Currently we have finished with installation of ceiling, and interior wall plastering. Hope Ambassadors intensified the campaignand stepped up the game by building HandwashStations in schools and also distributing liquidsoaps and hand sanitizers to school children.Though more expensive, it opened a new vista inour 'Clean Hands' campaign. We moved from therealm of theory to practical demonstration on awider scale. Children became more enthusedand involved. They quickly became our 'Junior CleanHands Ambassadors' as they go back hometo teach their parents, siblings, neighboursand their communities. Thereby popularisingthe teaching and making many others to fullyunderstand that 'Clean Hands Save Lives'. Hope Ambassadors and ChildcareOrganisation have gone ahead to evenimprove on the standard of the HandwashStations. The recent ones built are of mega sizes withfacilities to accommodate between 24-36 pupilsat a go. Children, Teachers and Visitors to schoolsare able to sanitize their hands before enteringthe school to interact with others. We are glad toannounce that the campaign had since goneglobal and featured in many countries includingPakistan. Now that Covid-19 is ravaging the world,Handwashing campaign has gained globalprominence. We are confident that withpositive, proactive and pragmatic actions onthe part of all #thistooshallpass. We shouldnot panic but let’s confidently tackle thescourge frontally.Page 39

Nothing is too little, nothing is too small as our collective effortsgo a long way! Handwashing should be a lifetime habit! From a very humble beginning, Hope Ambassadors havebecome a giant in the 'Clean Hands Save Lives' Campaign. AllWe have done are through self-effort and self-funded. We cando more with support from big foundations and institutions thatfunds W-A-S-H related activities.Meanwhile, we keep doing all we can do in anticipation thathelp will come our way some day! ur mobility and dexterity will naturally diminish as we age and this makes completingeveryday tasks more difficult. This leads to loneliness and hopelessness. BY: KIBE EDWIN GITAU . GGAF - KENYALoving is Sharing and Sharing is Caring: Medical Camp for Senior Citizens inMurang’a County, Kenya. gitaukibe@gmail.com What risks do older people face, and what challenges do they go through?A higher percentage of elderly persons in Kenya live in the rural areas where main economicactivities are small scale farming and livestock keeping with no social security thus renderingthem vulnerable. Our mobility and dexterity will naturally diminish as we age and this makescompleting everyday tasks more difficult. Eventually this prevents elderly persons frombeing physically active and social; they become relaxed in pursuing their interests and (or)taking part in activities that they used to enjoy. This leads to loneliness and hopelessness.

Page 53

On 21st of March 2021, at the invitation of local administration we visited Kandara Division, Murang’a County in Kenya. Uhai Centre in partnership with Family Tree Initiative embarked on a journey to Identify the immediate needs of our senior citizens. It is through the mobilization of local administration that we registered 215 elderly persons (above 70 years) all with different social, medical and psychological needs. We are developing a database to cater even for the elderly who willrequire specialized home based care because of mobility challenges. After assessment, we identified these senior citizens’ immediate need was medicalattention and provision of food. On 25th April 2021, we conducted a medical camp thatattracted 230 elderly persons. The activities included registration, geriatric counseling, distribution of food packages and blankets, medical screening, assessment and provisionof available medicine. This exercise was made successful through teamwork and resourcemobilization. It was a well-coordinated event with volunteers from all fields includingmedical professionals (Doctors, Nurses, Clinical Officers, Physiotherapists,Psychotherapists, Geriatric nurses and community health volunteers). Poor housing, lack of economic security, lack of love and care from significant people, poornutrittion and health problems. The common health problems of the elderly people in theregion include hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, joint aches, trachoma, loss/ poor eyesight, hearing problems in addition to a host of health problems that lead to other complicationand permanent incapacitation. In most desperate cases and due to poverty, the significantpeople in their lives tend to forget and neglect them. Elderly persons need additional care The Ambassador | June 2021 | Page 53

We hope to make this programme sustainable by holding regular activities for the elderly;we are holding elderly men only camp in early June 2021 to address specific needs andlater on hold elderly women camp. We are therefore requesting humanitarians and well-wishers to support us in this noble initiative. Applaud:Holy Month of Ramadhan I also wish to appreciate exemplary humanitarian activities of Prof. Peter A. Bheda. The Twelve Months of Kindness June “Try listening to your elders!”By: Dee Russell-ThomasJune 2021; GGAF UK Director

GGA UK have been working together as a team on our 12 Months of Kindness project. Our focus forthe month of May was based on collecting inspiring and insightful quotations from our children.Quite often, their beautiful innocence provides a thought-provoking and honest perspective on theworld and on the way in which they view life (one that otherwise would be unknown to us adults).Their incredible understanding and interpretations offer a valuable lesson to us in adulthood andremind us to always take our children’s voices into consideration; their voice matters just as much asours do. Children are the future and it’s incredibly vital for us to listen to them, not to dismiss them orundermine their opinions and views. To allow our children to thrive and to provide them with aspace to deliver their thoughts shows that we care about them, that we value them and that we arelearning together in unity. It makes our children feel safe, secure and worthy. There is no such thingas one being more important – both our children and us adults are equal. Together we are learningand our children matter. Our Children’s Voices Matter – Let Them Be HeardOver the last few weeks, I have been volunteering after school and supporting my children in a cohort called “Literacy Leaders and Happy Readers”. Here, my children are encouraged to thrive and grow… thinking broadly and widening their perspectives about life through writing and reading. I would now like to share with you some of the heart-felt voices collated from pupils at my school: Willow Brook Primary School. I hope that they touch your heart and soul as much as they did mine. All I can say is that they are incredibly wise, and I have learned a lot from them… Some are so innocent and simple, yet if you just spare a moment or two to really think deeply about their voice, you may find that you will learn a lot. It’s okay to not be okayYou don’t stop playing because you get older, you get older because you stop playingThere’s a light in all of us, we just have to find itWhether you think you can or you can’t you are right Think less, do more Don’t overthink, just do itActions speak louder than wordsTomorrow isn’t todayYou don’t need success to live, you need to live for success Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a giftFail talking start doing It’s okay to struggle but it’s not okay to give upBelieve in yourself, anything can be possibleNothing is impossible because the word itself says IM POSSIBLE It’s okay to not be perfectGo and live for your dreamsBe who you are, not what people want you to beEveryone has a mountainYou never know how important a moment is until it becomes a memoryDreams don’t work unless you doTeamwork makes the dream work Be yourself, everyone else is takenPositive dreams = positive mind-set "Thank you to the children I teach forbeing so open and honest. Keep shiningyour light… Keep being you. You areincredible. To children all around theworld – your voice MATTERS. We love youand we want to hear you. She dreamed of being a doctor; He yearned to fly a ‘planeThey started lives as innocents but then walked a path of painShe wore a weary furrowed brow; he stared through tear-stained eyesTheir hopes and aspirations now replaced with threats and lies. Her hair was dull and matted; his long legs were spindly thinThe smiles once shared now stolen; thus child labour doth beginShe nursed her aching muscles; he took flight from a passing blowThat’s as close as they came to the childhood dreams from oh, so long ago. She woke at dawn for household chores; he rose to mine for goldThey never saw the light of day; just did as they were toldThey beat her when she broke a cup; they whipped him if too slowAnd thus their freedom now denied with nowhere safe to goShe satisfied her master and he made the bosses wealthyTheir bodies used and broken and their meagre diet unhealthyShe gradually stopped caring whilst he lost the will to liveThey needed kinder people who could nurture, love and giveSo, think about these children and imagine they were yoursWould YOU not be determined to support this needy cause? It’s too easy to ignore them, to turn a blinded eyeTo close our hearts to caring and be deafened to their cry. These precious little humans shouldn’t work like this, we knowBut their voices oft are silenced and the progress made too slowWe must put an end to such abuse, replacing work with playPlease help us to protect them…together…now…today!I’m Standing up against ….
