The Situation : Child abuse and neglect in Sudan is very highbecause of the lack of awareness that it shouldbe provided by the government. There are noprograms that can help to decrease thepercentage of child abuse and neglect. Streetchildren, displaced children and refugees arehighly confronted with abuse. The percentage ofchild abuse is high in terms of psychical, neglect, and emotional abuse, and recently sexual abuse.Child marriage and female genital mutilation isalso high about 80%, and there is also childtrafficking. Sexual abuse is considered taboo and a stigma ifthe family of the abused child is revealed . It isvery high but unfortunately, there are nostatistical percentages to show, of all forms ofabuse. The lack of awareness regarding the childsexual abuse / other forms of abuse, and itsinfluence on child behaviour attitude lead tocreating many problems of child developmentin term of psychological and sociological. Thisleads to increased crime of sexual abuse, criminal behaviour, using drugs, and increasesthe number of abusers. There is a high rate ofchild murder via the sexual abuse (rapes). Psychical abuse is considered a kind of educationto raise a child. Emotional abuse is also very high, both cases of abuse are considered cultural, but itneeds to change. The main issues of the Sudanese community indealing with the child is the lack ofcommunication, and showing unconditional love.Verbal and non-verbal violence take a great placein raising children in our community.Child prevention in Sudan:Despite of international law that deal with childprotection, Sudan still has not taken serious stepstoward child abuse prevention in issuing stronglaws to prevent the child from abuse andpunishing the abuser. Recently, the governmenthas started to modify the law in accordance to theagreements of child protection, but still no seriousaction has been taken. MBIMB in Sudan In June 2020 The My body is My Body Programmeentered Sudan. The potential for the program wasvery high and still is. In 2 months around 300applicants took the first course (Introduction ToChild Maltreatment), and 35 applicants took thesecond course (How to present the My body is MyBody programme) and became programpresenters from different parts of Sudan. To establish a solid foundation for the program inSudan, I set up planned to empower and trainapplicants to become Programme Presenters inother words to be a Trainer of Trainees. This is toensure the continuity of the program, and try toreach as many possible school communities toprovide awareness, child abuse prevention andempowerment. We are also establishing partnerships witheducational foundations, policy, and organizationsthat deal with child care. Sudan (North Sudan ) is a large and multi-diverse country where there are more than 500tribes, and dialect languages. The motherlanguage is Arabic, the second one is English. In the last years Sudan was facing politicalissues, a great revolution that succeeded to letthe formal government to step down.Economically, Sudan is a rich country withmineral resources, animals, and agriculturalresources. MADANI city, FADASI village ( faculty of Education ),and ALBAGIR city, industrial city. The children werehappy with the training and having fun with the MBIMB songs. 3.ALGADARIF State The MBIMB program took place in refugee camps for Ethiopian children in the ARAKOBA andALHASHBA camps on the border of ETHIOPIA and Kassala. Feedback Organizations such as UNCHR, Minster of Health, have asked me to come back, as theymentioned that one time is not enough. 4. KHARTOUM State. The MBIMB program took place in schools for children in the age of 11, 12 years old with theirparents, and teachers, and some kindergarten, in some neighbourhoods. Feedback was verypositive. The result of the initiative. Introducing myself as an Ambassador for the My Body is My Body Programme played a bigrole in the message being received, awareness and social status has an impact since nobodyof a high-level position have spoken to the people.The outcome was very good. communities, organisations and schools were very happy aboutmy speech and performances with the children. Initiative fundSome local corporations such as Al Baraka Bank , Tarco Aviation، and the LieutenantGeneral Psc Isam Mohamed Hassan Karrar Commander of Sudanese Land Forces.havefunded this initiative to reach the communities where no service is offered with the childprevention program MBIMB such as villages, rural areas, and even cities awareness is hugelyneeded. Frankly, the financial problem always is an obstacle in performing any internationalprogram that can help people.INITATIVE CAMPIGN MY BODY IS MY BODY IN SUDANPage 20

My Body is My Body program shows us how fun learning through art and literature can be. The content was FREE to everyone. There are animation videos and songs EYES-SL shared withchildren through the network of our schools. This empowered children and parents by promotingthe safe and social wellness of a child, by establishing positive line of communication betweenparent, community, stakeholders and the children.Children in many communities in Bo District, Sierra Leone, West Africa who benefited from themusical program see NO as the next opportunity when they are about getting into conflicts such asabuse situations. As a consequence, this enabled better and effective communication that hasreduced the number of Child Sexual Gender Based Violence in many communities. This fun way of learning motivated the children to informally name me “My body!” For children who benefited from the program have always managed to ring an alarm whenencountering Child Sexual Abuse issues in the community. This helped the victim who have beenreferred to Bo Rainbo Center, where they have access to a free medical treatment and abusers arehanded over to the police authority. Therefore, I believe, that fun way of learning through art and literature has unified parents andchildren in the global community creating a safer world for children. The impact of Art and Literature: MY BODY IS MY BODY - Mohamed MansarayPage 21

We as GGA's are a wonderful force around the world and we can achieve somuch by joining together. Welcome back dear friends and dear friends, I would like to start this article.. making confidence toyou one of my little secrets, you know that since I am part of the Global Goodwill AmbassadorFoundation, gradually, I have seen myself grow on a personal level and I have discovered parts ofmyself that I did not see or did not want to see.Today, two years after my appointment, I feel like a completely restructured, changed person. I have replaced my modalities, my approach towards life and towards myself, in short, I feel free but at the same time very responsible for what is around me. I am grateful to this Foundation because it enriched me and made acquired sensitivity lead me to intercept people like in this case the MasterSabrina and her friends Giulia, Silvia, Clara and Edy. How come this nice little group caught my attention? Well, prick up your ears, because thesewonderful people have given birth to a "social event" that takes the name of "The day ofmismatched socks". Think of the event as a metaphor for diversity and the fact that color, length, shape and size do not change the nature of things or person: they are always and in any case socksmetaphorically speaking! So, one day, Sabrina, Giulia, Silvia, Clara and Edy decide to create a post and publish it each ontheir profile, the post was the following; Attention if you too want to join the day of mismatchedsocks it is very simple "you need to wear unmatched, imaginative and playful socks, take a pictureand post it on your Facebook or Instagram profile tagging @autismoParoleperdirlo".P A G E 0 8 / I S S U E 0 7"A Man of Boundless Curiosity"Page 42

VISIT BY THE SHEPHERD’S MENTORSHIP FOUNDATION TO PAEDIATRIC WARD,GARKI HOSPITAL. ABUJA, FCT. NIGERIA2020 was a year like no other for every single individual on the planet. Plans were usurped, jobs were lost, lifestyles were forcefully altered, a record-breaking number of deaths dominated the news. We all lived oneday at a time, hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Hoping that one day, we would wake up and thenews will go, “CORONA IS A GONER” and at the same time expecting that little sneeze that will mark thebeginning of an infection. 2020 was a year of suspense and anxiety, where our emotional, psychological and physiological strengthswere put to the test. But in spite of all these, December came and along withit, Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year; the season of giving, spreading joy and good tidings. We were most glad to see it with our families but then there were people who had not been as fortunateas we had been, people who had probably spent the entire yearo n the hospital with very few or no visitsdue to the state of things.Hence on the 26th of December 2020, The Shepherd’s Mentorship Foundation, after obtaining permissionfrom the Garki Hospital Management and in line with the COVID guidelines, shared the gift of Christmaswith the children in the paediatric ward. It was a gloriously fulfilling experience for everyone as thechildren and caregivers were glad to have us celebrate with them. We prayed and we laughed. Weencouraged the caregivers and went room by room to distribute gifts. The children expressed theirgratitude with smiles, unfortunately, picture-taking with the children was prohibited. However, nothinglasts forever and soon it was time for us to go."With hopeful spirits, we wished them a quick recovery and a MerryChristmas and with heavy hearts we bade them goodbye."Page 45

Teachers shape the future of our world. They educate our future leaders and theresponsibility of our planet lies in their hands. Quite often we don’t give teachers the creditthey deserve. I mean, first of all they spend all day with kids! Something that would drivemost of us mad. But beyond that they do so much more. Not only do they teach our childrenbut, because they spend more time with our children than we, as parents do, they aretrusted with caring for their wellbeing, both socially, mentally and physically. They are a mother, a father, a brother, a sister, a friend and a councillor to our children andwhile this may seem like enough of a job in itself, they also have to try and squeeze in someteaching along the way.Gavin McCormack | Principal: Farmhouse Montessori SchooGGA - AustraliaThings that all "Good" Teachers DoPage 50

Page 51

Page 51

Page 52

3. They allow children to ask questions and investigate, and they don’t pretend to know everything“So that sums up our study of the human heart class!” Said Mr Johnson“Sir, why do heart attacks occur?”“Actually I don’t know, but how about you go and find out and tell us all next week!”This instills a sense of reality, responsibility and pride as the children get to feedback to the group.Allow them to be the teacher, allow them to be the expert in the field.4. They make things real. If your teaching Pythagoras and a child asks why we have to learn it. You’vegot an answer. If you’re teaching exposition writing you allow the children to write to an actual letter toa real person persuading them to do something. Make learning purposeful and real.5. They practice what they preach. If you tell your class to be on time, dress smart, show respect, keeptheir voice down and show kindness and gratitude. Well, you better be doing that yourself. Childrenare very observant and they will quickly pull you up on it, and the old saying “Do as I say, not as I do.” Isjust not good enough.Page 52

Page 53

6. They tell stories. They tell their class about what they’ve been up to, how their evening was and whatthey’ve got planned. Children like to know you’re human, they like to know you don’t live in the artcupboard and that you do normal human things like shopping, watching movies and even that time youfelt down or lonely. You’re a human being, let them know.7. They trust their children. You explain to them that the classroom is an extension of their home and youshould feel safe in here. “I’m going to leave my wallet on my table and my mobile phone on my desk, Itrust you won’t touch it because you trust that when you need me I’ll be there for you. Mutual respectequals mutual trust and if and when that trust is broken it will be a huge learning curve.8. They tell children that they matter, and so does their opinion. An opinion box on your desk wherechildren can leave anonymous changes they’d like to see in the classroom is a great idea, a dailyreflection card allowing children to express what they liked and didn’t like about that day is a great idea. They ask the class to anonymously review their teaching, you might think you’re the greatest, coolestteacher in the world, but how do you know if you’re never evaluated by the very people who look at youall day?9. They share ideas with the wider community. A great teacher doesn’t create materials and keep them asecret so they look better than everyone else. They think of education as a whole, a world vision, achange for the future of mankind and with that, great teachers share great ideas and great resources. Ifthey discover something that works, they shout it from the top of the highest mountain and throwphotocopied samples from aeroplanes high in the sky so everyone gets a copy. Good ideas change lives.10. This is the most important one of all and one that we only find very rarely. Great teachers don’t teach, they inspire. They don’t say “This is how you do it, now go do it”, they don’t say “Here’s the equation nowsolve it”, they don’t say “This is what it looks like now copy it.” They say “How do you think you do it,please tell me!” They say “Can you find the equation and please test it!” They say “What do you think itlooks like?, go find out!”"If you know a teacher who does any of the above, please share this article with them orany teachers who might like these ideas, and similarly, if you have any ideas of your ownplease pop them in my LinkedIn message box: linkedin.com/in/gavinmccormack"Page 53

LeadershipWhat is Leadership?Competency goes beyond words. It's the leader's ability tosay it, plan it, and do it in such a way that others know thatyou know how - and know that they want to follow you.--John C. MaxwelAsk 100 people and you may get 100 different answers. But those who are true leaders will havethe same underlying values. As you read how our GGAs view leadership you will find that fromcountry to country, culture to culture, job to job, the same underlying qualities of good leadershipethics and skills are needed for success.Employees and volunteers need to be treated as partners which means you, as a leader will needto develop your interpersonal skills and consistently work on these. This is when authenticleadership begins. Create a culture of trust, always be humble, and inspire people. Leadershipexcellence propers on the development of key leadership-derived competencies. All leaders mustknow their own strengths and weaknesses in order to be successful. As a good leader, be sincere and honest in your inspiration to your team members. Transparencyand honesty are key to gaining your employee's trust. As John C. Maxwell states in his book, "Servant Leadership Roadmap" to lead a strong team andachieve leadership excellence, we must embrace a growth mindset and this starts with thinking ofemployees as part of our team. A leader's goal is to lead, inspire, and guide by influence .Next month we will talk about "Leadership Styles" amd I'll stop here with this quote:The best leaders don't know just one style of leadership;they're skilled at several and have the flexibility to switchbetween styles as the circumstance dictate.--Daniel Goleman

Page 56

Rami KaibniGGA - CanadaWhile leadership and mentorship may seem two very different things in theory, yet in practice, ifyou use an agile mindset and look into the fine details of each, you will realize that one leads tothe other. There are many types and styles of leadership, yet, I’ve always been a big fan of “ServantLeadership”. I believe a leader should lead by example (i.e. lead from the front) and while doingso, you mentor your team and help them grow because leadership is should be based oninspiration, not domination. On the other hand, mentoring is all about advising others from your own experience and helpingsteer them in the right direction to achieve their goals and through the process, you become theirtrusted advisor. One of my favorite quotes about mentoring is by Lucia Ballas Traunor:The greatest mentors inspire and so do servant leaders. Leadership for me is all about servingothers, working with them and helping them become a better version of themselves and so ismentorship. I am very passionate about mentoring others because I believe it is a noble thing todo and seeing the people around me succeed, boosts my motivation. Page 56

Page 57

Isha BhandariGGA Director - IndiaChairperson DSB FoundationLeadership and mentoring for me couldn't be better defined than the above quote by BenjaminFranklin.Self-preparedness is the most imperative value for me before I lead. Leadership is to lead byexample, motivating your team to trust and follow your vision and then coaching and building ateam so that it is more effective at achieving the vision. Leadership style has to be fundamentally collegiate. Leadership and mentoring go hand in hand.It is about purpose and passion. Before being a mentor, one has to become a good mentee.Ability to delegate with gratitude & empathy are foremost in a leader. For me to be a dynamic, exciting, and inspiring leader is more significant. Leadership for me is to influence someone tobe the very best in achieving the goal.Leadership and mentorship are uniquely intertwined. It's hard to imagine achieving success at eitherwithout a clear understanding of the attributes needed to do both simultaneously. Your ability to clearlypaint and communicate your vision and the journey to get from one place to another must beconsiderately articulated to each team member as well as as the vital roles everyone plays in ultimately getting to understanding and want to be a part of that successful journey. When you have the opportunity to mentor people of all ages, there is great satisfaction in knowing thatcan play a role in their future. “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I mayremember. Working with our valued partners Dot Bekker and Zimbabwe’s National University of Science andTechnology (NUST), we have just completed the first phase of this project, which is to collect watersamples to be tested in the lab. The lab results from NUST will help us to determine what solution is bestfor implementation, in which we will then raise awareness and funds (utilizing Johnson & Johnson’sCaringCrowd among others) to achieve our objective.Water is complex, but complexity should not be a deterrent to understanding it. Women and girls canget out of the cycle of poverty if we are forward-thinking in implementing sustainable solutions backedby evidence that work seamlessly that promises better lives. We know that when women and girls areempowered with knowledge, tools, and access to clean water and sanitation, they are more likely to stayin school, start businesses and grow the economy.By: Lumbie Mlambo, CEO/JB Dondolo, Inc.GGA - USA Women and girls bear the responsibility of collectingwater in rural areas across the world. The averagedistance they walk for water is 4 miles. In Matobo Hills,Zimbabwe, women and girls walk 9 miles to get to theirwater source and 9 miles back, a total of 18 miles a day.The water they fetch is unsafe for human consumptionhowever, to survive, they are left with no choice but to useit. Humans and livestock drink out of the same muddypond that dries up during summer months. My nonprofit organization JB Dondolo, Inc. is working toaddress this dire situation and help be part of the solutionin the water scarcity crisis. Some of us are cat people and some of us are dog people and hopefully, none of us are crazy cat or dog people.Hopefully, we have enough human social interaction to avoid that funny scenario we hear about in comedieswhere the lonely person has 45 cats and flaunts a "I love my cats" T-shirt. Regardless of whether you prefer cats, dogs or other domesticated animals, as a pet owner you know how much love and affection animals can give. Eachanimal has a distinct personality just like any one of us and for those of us who have more than one pet, you canrelate to this. I have had a number of different pets throughout my life but currently, I have two dogs and a cat. Mydogs which I like to refer to as my ‘fur babies’ are quite attached and it’s almost impossible to separate them evenin separate rooms. I learned this the hard way when my oldest doggy, Kenzo, my toy Yorkie Mix was sick, and hisson Versace, who is twice the size of his father, went to stay with my friend. Both showed signs of depression andneither of them had a normal appetite. It was hard to watch. When they were reunited it was fun to watch. Theywere so excited. My Purfect Kitty JuJu is such a diva. He is quite finicky. He is picky with his food and many other things. He is veryaffectionate and often times over-friendly and especially with guests. He acts more like a dog than a cat but everynow and then he was to assert himself as king of the household. His inner lion comes out every now and then. As afellow Leo (my astrological sign), I can relate lol. He like the treats that his mommy (my daughter Nada-Lina) getshim from the U.S., but he isn’t satisfied with just one treat. If you want his acceptance and affection you really needto offer him a couple of treats. He is a sweet kitty with long soft fur. He is a beautiful mix of different shades of greyand white. He loves to pounce and tends to ignore his scratching post and has turned most of our furniture into hisown person scratching posts.Juju has an interesting relationship with Kenzo and Versace as he is curious but still cautious. He gets alongwell with Kenzo who is smaller in size than him. They love to play together. Versace on the other hand is toohyper for Juju’s tastes. Juju usually runs away and hides from him. They all play with each other’s toys andeven steal each other’s beds. I love my fur babies. The best advice I can give is to love and care for yourbabies because they offer unconditional love unlike anything you will find in this world. I love my babiesand couldn’t imagine my life without them.Nancy HadiPage 86
